:bulletred::bulletred::bulletred: TRAIL OF THE WOLVES :bulletred::bulletred::bulletred:

Here are the first chapters from my historical mystery novel:

Trail of the Wolves: Chapter I
Chapter I
The burning sparks in the lake of fire hissed and sizzled so hot that they seemed to scorch the air. Restless black shadows that once were human crawled in anguish amidst the fetid flames, some weeping in despair, some moaning with fear, some screaming in pain, some laughing in their madness. His mother was there. He saw her from the side among other shadows, but he could feel it was her. Her face was dark and her hair was rare and scorched, and she was naked. But she smiled. Panting, he tried to swim to the surface from where he had fallen, but he felt his feet painfully stuck to the molten ground, while tongues of flame – or shadow, he could not tell – gripped his limbs like seaweeds. Not guilty, he wanted to scream, but his lungs were filled with hot air and he began choking. Falling to his knees, he could sense the presence of thousands of shadows enclosing him, while crouching in terror, choking on the smoke and his own tears, and he shut his eyes. But instead

"Sentenced, yes, this is what he did! What does he know about this place, about this life? And you know nothing about it either, Aedgar!"
Aidan slammed the door of his cell and threw himself on the bed, face down.
"Why me? Always me?" he stroke the bed angrily, knocking the hard straw cushion down to the floor. "I never said I wanted to become a man of the church. It is my life, it should have been my choice. I have duties, but I am not permitted to have rights. I am old enough to live alone so far away from my home and family, but I am not old enough to make my own choices!"
And as he lay there, something crossed his mind. He rose suddenly and half-opened the door of his cell, so as to catch sight of the entire corridor that opened before it. He could hear no sound, nor espy the slightest move. He left. He crossed the vast and empty courtyard in stealth, strained to catch any no

He dreamed he was in a vast chamber, so large and dark that it had no beginning and no ending. He could tell it was very crowded, for he was surrounded by a constant murmur, from which he could not understand a word, as if the voices were speaking a language unknown to him. In the only lit spot of the chamber, he saw a large throne and someone was seated on it, but he could not see his face. And in his hands, there was a book. He opened it, and the voices grew suddenly louder, and those around him fell to their knees, as if they were praying. Aidan did not know what it meant, but he had an eerie sensation. He felt a sudden urge to escape that strange scene that made him queasy, and he ran to find a way out, jostling all those who stood in his way, afraid that they might try to stop him. And amid that mumbling, he could discern the repeated word "repent". The air grew heavy, and he could hardly breathe. He closed his eyes – from fear, for the darkness was impenetrable – and he

Not a very easy read - I warn you - and the best part is yet to come ;) Be prepared to be thrown into the midst of the Middle Ages, into their dark realities and even darker fantasies.
:D

I'll treasure every piece of feedback from you, my fellow deviants ;)

And now, time for featuring!! (while I still got a subscription going on) :D I have the pleasure to show you some of my favourite pieces of art. Check out the artists' galleries, they have more fantastic work to share!

And, one more thing:

Here is my Wishlist for the Winter Gift Exchange I'm gonna be in (don't worry, it doesn't concern any of my other watchers/visitors, just my 'pair' and organizers :D). A few things about me that might help:

My favourite colour: Black
My favourite season: Winter
My favourite music: Metal (in general, but especially Viking and Folk metal)
My favourite movies: Apocalypto, Braveheart, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Phantom of the Opera
My favourite games: Assassin's Creed, Soul Reaver, Skyrim, Gothic
My favourite Themes: Vikings, mythology, Middle Ages, magic
My favourite type of characters: warriors, mystics, berserkers

My dream gift would be something inspired from my novel (in any visual media of your choice) :D

It's called 'Trail of the Wolves' and it is about a teenage English boy taken to Norway as a slave after a viking raid on the monastery where he was training to become a monk. There he will be cast into a troubled world, where a secret society of Berserkers is struggling to protect their old faith and gods from the brutal Christianization initiated by the mad king of Norway.

SO, it could be either a character - a Viking/Berserker/ or my main character Aidan - a place (monastery, a fjord, a Viking village in winter, a runestone, a Viking ship, anything of the sort), or a scene (but that is of course more difficult since it implies that my 'pair' must actually read the chapters I've posted so far :P)

In short, anything Norse would do, whether specifically from my novel or imagined by the artist related to any theme present in my novel :D

The style could be anything between dark, fantasy, surreal or realistic (whatever suits you best). No anime style, please (since my novel portrays themes specific to European culture).

AND here is a short description of my :bulletred: Original Characters :bulletred:, should you choose to depict them (which would make me veeery happy):

In return, I'd be glad to illustrate someone's novel (or any original fiction) in the same way. Or anything else in visual media - a painting, drawing, photomanipulation or photograph representing something of their choice. :D
